Preparations for "Making War"

We've been gigging pretty regularly in the first four months of this year, and now we're backing off the show schedule a bit to take some time and learn the new material for our upcoming album, "Making War for Fun and Profit." We're hoping to have it recorded by June, and possibly released by August. But you know how we are, don't set anything in stone until it's in stone.

Anyway, this album has 12 new tracks on it, plus two bonus tracks. The bonus tracks are a song we wrote for an Ed McMillen game called Cereus Peashy (this is the shortened game version; the full version of this song is also on the album) and our cover of the Eagles Fight Song (Fly, Eagles, Fly). Total runtime of this album is just about 50 minutes.

We're pretty excited to be working on the new album so soon after the release of Crapital Punishment, and you may be saying to yourself, "But how did you get another whole album written in such a short time?" Well, the fact of the matter is, we're writing new material all the time. By the time Crapital Punishment was released, we already had enough material for this next album and then some. In fact, as of right now, there's about 13 songs written for the next album beyond Making War (Tenatively titled "Cunning Linguist"). One never knows when inspiration will hit, and luckily for us, it's been hitting like a motherfucker lately.

So with 25 songs in the wings, we felt it was time to start working on the next album. Hopefully we'll ride on Making War for about a year before we start recording the followup. And in the interim, we're also working on the details for live recordings, so we can release our first live album soon after Making War. This album is tenatively called "More Live Than Live Stuff That Is Live." We've already captured a couple shows on tape, and the early recordings sound good. We'll be piecing that together from now through the Making War tour this Fall. So if you get an opportunity to come to one of our shows, DO, and make some noise. The more rambunctious the crowd is, the more likely it is that the show will be included in the live album. So it could be YOU on that album! (-:

Anyway, that's about it on the homefront.

Ground Floor Gigs

If you are a regular visitor to our Shows page, then you may have noticed that all our Ground Floor shows have mysteriously disappeared. Bob at the Ground Floor has taken us off the regular Sunday lineup and given us a more prominent Friday night spot on May 7th. The reason for the move? As Bob put it, the Sunday shows weren't making any money for the club (in fact, they were losing money) so they're discontinuing them. But the Friday spots are much better attended. It's cool that The Ground Floor and Bob in particular are still interested in having us there, despite the fact that we haven't been a great draw there. I'm hoping we can publicize the May 7th show and get more people out to show Bob that we can indeed draw. Of course, a large part of that would be getting the demos made and handed out on campus, and advertising the hell out of the show. I'll be working on that shortly. In the meantime, those of you who live in the area, it would be HUGELY appreciated if you came out in support of one of the few shows currently booked for MtD. As of this writing, this will be the last opportunity for you to see us live before mid-July. And we WILL be recording the show, so come on out and make some noise. (-:
Snippets
Lake Studios got a facelift and an upgrade this past week. Our main computer was upgraded from an Athlon 950Mhz with 256MB of RAM and a 40GB hard drive, to a Celeron 2.2Ghz with 1GB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive. Also, we got a new workstation desk. It made a huge difference in our most recent recording of the North Jersey band Hudson.
