Goddamn it, I finally decide to make the newsletter bi-weekly, and then I forget to send the issue out on Monday! Jesus Christ!
Wasn't This Due Yesterday?
Yes it was, shut up.
Pirate's Den, Thursday
There's a
huge show coming up on Thursday at the
Pirate's Den in Gloucester, NJ. It's the first-ever all-
401 Records show; all four bands on the lineup are with 401 Records. That alone should make it huge.
But see, fate is a cruel thing sometimes. Saturday, at a private party, Rhett E. Rock - drummer of the Positives - dislocated his shoulder while playing bass for The Taxidermists. So Jason of The Positives contacted me on Monday to say that they wouldn't be able to play the show. But wait, all is not lost! I know a thing or two about skin-bashing, and I've filled in for Rhett in the past! So guess what? I'll be filling in for the injured Rhett on Thursday, pulling double duty as Max the Dork's frontman and as The Positives' drummer. Should be a lot of fun. And wierd, too, especially since The Positives have been doing a cover of our song, Loner.
Anyway, tickets are still available for the show and you can order them from our
Shows page for $5 each. Also, the show is 21+ so if you're under 21, make sure you have your fake ID with you. Not that we condone such things.
The Intense Mutilation Connection
Visitors to our website in the past couple of days may notice that there are a lot of
Intense Mutilation banners all around, not to mention a brief synopsis on IM by yours truly on the main page. There's a logical explanation for this: I love Intense Mutilation. Pure and simple. And when their frontman, Pungent Vomit, contacted me personally (via mass-email) to say that they had just released their first album in 15 years (Sgt. Lepper's Falling Parts Club Band), I absolutely jumped at the chance to help them promote themselves. Also, I had noticed that their site had a link to fellow-401 Records band
Kahn Tragg and the Twatwaffles merely because Kahn had a link to their site. So I may have gone a bit overboard with the links, but hey, there's now a link to Max
the Dork on the IM site, so I guess my plan worked.
Also, Pungent (my wife says that I've become quite the name-dropper since I started emailing Pungent Vomit directly, but my good friend Pungent Vomit doesn't agree) said that if we start doing an IM cover in our sets, he may come to one of our shows to perform it with us. And I mean, come ON, we've been playing Rent-a-Placenta for quite some time now! Just never in front of people. But look for that to be added to our regular playlists soon, and perhaps we'll get a visit from the Pungent one himself. That would be AWESOME.
Now, let me clean up this drool before I start on the next news item...
Bret's Cousin: Back from the War
That's right, my cousin, Rick Babick, has returned to the States from Iraq after a year of duty over there. I'm glad that he's back safe and sound, and was overjoyed that he came out to our March 26th performance at
Brenner's Brew. It was good seeing him, and we dedicated
Lockstep to him during the show. We had a blast. Welcome home, Rick!
Gish Update
I've been talking to
Ed McMillen (There I go dropping names again) lately and he has told me that the demo for Gish should be available by April 20th. (Hmm, 4/20...coincidence? You decide.) He's also been working on the video trailer for the game which includes the Gish themesong written and performed by Max the Dork. I'm really looking forward to that.
